Pre-1979 Structures

As of April 22, 2010, federal law requires that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb more than 6 square feet (interior), or 20 square feet (exterior), in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 (1979 in San Diego City and can vary by local ordinance) must be certified and trained to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. All housing receiving federal assistance is included under this law and may be subject to additional restrictions. Pro Image Painting Services, Inc. is fully certified and trained in these Lead-Safe Practices.

• Certified with trained and certified workers.
• Records on-site, document work and maintain documentation.
• Educate owners and residents about lead and lead-safe practices.
• Paint testing for lead: Prohibited in California by Certified Renovators such as Pro Image Painting. Special certification and equipment is required for testing.
• Prohibited work practices:
  • Pressure washing
  • Power sanding or abrading
• Post warning signs
• Cover surrounding area (6 ft. interior, 10 ft. exterior)
• Seal windows and doors
• Contain and collect dust and debris
• Clean, remove and dispose of protective sheeting
• Clean surfaces as required
• Verify cleaning
• Properly dispose of dust and debris
